Synopsis

Magnus Dwyer had followed orders from childhood all the way into adulthood. He’d joined the Army just like his older brother had— it was expected that they’d follow in their father’s footsteps, except life was never easy, and it certainly didn’t go the way Magnus thought it would.

His service had him facing death time and again while his friends fell all around him. Even his brother was not spared during his service. Magnus stayed the course until he couldn’t anymore. A roadside bomb killed his unit and nearly took his leg off. He was medically discharged, but the doctors had saved his leg.

With lifelong pain and a limp, Magnus still managed to make it through the Metro Police Academy. He worked his way up from patrol officer to detective, but even as a cop, Magnus brushed against death more often than his peers.

Life was orderly, and he helped make a difference for people. He was content with how things were until everything he knew was flipped on its head. His life changed the moment he went to talk to a homicide witness. He’d found the older veteran dead, but that hadn’t stopped the witness from rising up and attacking Magnus.

Suddenly thrust into the truth of the paranormal world, Magnus would have to learn how to cope with his new reality. As if having the veil ripped from his eyes wasn’t enough, he soon found himself entangled with fae, witches, and a succubus. A normal man wouldn’t survive, but Magnus found out that he wasn’t exactly human anymore. That wouldn’t stop him from doing what he’d always done. He would continue to help others, even if it cost him his life.

Top-tier acting, engaging story, spicy romance

Warning: this book is heavy on romance and ****** content. Parsneau and Fields are a tour de force. It's hard to believe this isn't a full-cast production. The female character voices are so different, but they sound so natural! Andrea Parsneau, who plays Banksy in Kaiju, and Agatha and Katia in Dungeon Crawler Carl, just has an insane vocal range. She plays old and young women, and narrates powerfully, with a skill level on par withJeff Hays, but more lilting. The action is engaging, and the book is filled with warmth, humor, anxiety, and the anticipation of terror. It's thick with parted lips, worldbuilding, screams, slowly building character development, magick, and uhh... theres an argument about who picks up the check? The plot doesn't move quickly, but the performance is never flat. I gave this a 5 for plot because I find the story fascinating, but even the one star review here admits the performance is good. Highly recommended for fans of Andrea Parsneau.

Ends to soon.

A book about the induction into the supernatural. Any fans of Fred the Vampire Accountant will enjoy this so long as you're okay with Harem books and spicey scenes that you can skip by gping to the next chapter. My biggest problem is that this book is all set up. ***Spoilers past this point*** The case that drags our MC into the supernatural is heavily hinted at being caused by the werewolf our MC kills about half way through the book after the case is handed off to the "Feds" but not once for the rest of the book does anyone conect the dots or even talk about the case infact the book ends before the MCs first day working for the Paranormal version of interpool. It feels like some things got lost in revisions and the nice neat bow that should tie up all the loose ends is half done.
